Meet Sally Anne Giedrys
Founder/Chief Writing Officer
Many writers come to the table knowing how to write. Few grasp (and ever really own) the marketing and public relations goals and strategy behind the project.
I'm different. I've been in the shoes of my clients. I've created and implemented marketing and PR plans. I've helped other marketing professionals create solid strategy and strong creative. I've hired freelance copywriters and outsourced projects. And I understand what it takes to be successful.
My clients know I bring more than 15 years of integrated marketing communications experience-- and a deep skill set-- to the table. I've worked as a marcom manager, managed editorial teams, developed marketing plans, handled media relations, advised executives on communications strategy and implementation. I think like an editor because I've been one. I've written everything from web site and email copy to business books, museum displays to white papers. My skills in research and interviewing have allowed me to easily step into nearly any market, grasp what's important and communicate it effectively to the target audience.
After working with clients in a variety of industries, I've learned that effectiveness lies in the ability to communicate well in any format. To be able to scale across industries and talk to diverse audiences. To understand the key message and the strategy behind it. Most businesses don't need to waste money on a cadre of specialists just to communicate with their market. My clients tell me they need a professional writer with marketing communications savvy-- someone who can handle the white paper, along with the web copy, email marketing, advertising and even the pr content. Sometimes they need to outsource management of the whole project. They need someone who sees the big picture. That's me.
Some of my favorite projects have included:
- Managing the marketing launch of a science museum's new digital planetarium
- Writing viewbooks to market innovative graduate-level MBA programs
- Crafting a series of white papers and press materials to showcase an international company's proven expertise in green land planning
- Developing strategy and content for a 12-month integrated positioning program for a successful niche architecture firm
- Advising C-level executives on how to create demand for their company's services through a successful subscription-based marketing newsletter
- Leading development of integrated marketing campaigns for a traveling series of natural science exhibits
- Documenting the development of one of the nation's first digital library initiatives through articles and annual reports
- Writing and researching case studies to promote best practices in marketing and business
- Creating press materials for the launch of a $19 million capital campaign
- Developing a cultural adventure map/brochure to showcase cultural offerings in a revitalizing city
A love of learning is one of my top strengths. That means I ramp up quickly. And I make a point to know what's going on in the fast-changing world of marketing communications and copywriting. It means I'm regularly attending professional events, conferences, webinars, classes and workshops and bringing that knowledge back to my clients. In 2009, I completed an advanced training program and certification in inbound marketing techniques such as social media marketing, blogging and SEO. And in 2010 will complete 77 hours of professional coach training.
I currently serve as Executive Vice President of the Oregon-Columbia Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators and am actively involved with the 2009 and 2010 Portland Communicators Conference. Previously, I've served as a board member with the Society of Professional Communicators, the City of Worcester Cultural Coalition Promotion of Arts and Culture Subcommittee and the Central Massachusetts Museum Marketing Collaborative.
After many years of living and working in New England, I am happily exploring life in Portland, Oregon, and working with clients nationwide.
